Personal Project
In this series of work the viewer is presented with something old and something new – a fusion of the traditional themes of still life painting; the transience of life, ephemerality and symbols of abundance, with contemporary photographic compositions and the rising trend of foraging and slow food horticulture.
“(These) high contrast images contain the same bounteous beauty of a ‘Banquet Piece Still Life’. The contrast lies in the withering and drying plant foods that are considered, demure and reflect a gentler approach to food, life and death. (Max’s)… photographs may be less dramatic than the Seventeenth Century oil paintings, but are reflective, rich and profoundly beautiful.” – Heather Griffin, 2018.
Personal Project
These photographs present a series of city buildings wrapped up during various stages of restoration. The project is both an open conversation about the extensive building projects that are currently going on across the city of Bristol, and a study of the intriguing appearance and presentation that these monuments take on during this particular process.
In their most immediate realisation, they are transient forms that will in time breathe new life to many of the city's iconic historical buildings, many of which have sat derelict or decaying for many years.
